The buffets are still more a major draw and the Rio is making a huge blunder getting rid of theirs. Just means I know where “NOT” to go and visit. South Point has way more to offer and there are others in that are in the same mix.

Rio isn’t being demolished. If the ballpark happens there, it will be next to Rio.

I go for the buffets. When they go, I don’t gamble

I agree. I would visit Vegas and stay at different hotels but would always make a trip over to Mandalay Bay for Bayside Buffet because it was on the quite side, fairly cheap and I liked the scenery around it but I wouldn’t go out of my way for a food hall now a days.

Occasionally I would eat at the buffet for lunch and it was delicious and it cost $5.99. This was before the Seafood Buffet. The casino was always crowded and lots of fun in the 90’s. Caesars Entertainment bought the Rio around 2000 and it gradually started going downhill.

So it may have lost money, but it did bring in foot traffic. I see no reason to head over to Rio at this point and and get the feeling that Caesars really doesn’t care.

My friends and I used to go the Rio twice every trip…once for the Carnival World and the next night for the Seafood. We ate like kings. I get that they need to change but this a sign of “ah, remember when…”. Good stuff Scott.

It went from a really cool off strip joint to an empty husk. I was at the Grand opening and it is sad to see it go in toilet like this.

Admittedly, there are some food courts that are better than what you associate with the 1990s mall food court. It’s not all Panda Express in food halls, as we’ve seen. I know, stigma. You can’t sell a $25 burger to a food court customer. Call it a food hall, and jackpot!
Lipstick on a pig, for the most part.
Good for Rio. You need places for people to eat. Buffets lose money, but they drive traffic. How many people are going to go out of their way to go to Rio because they have a kick ass food hall? Four per month. Fact. I’m not sure what it will take to convince me Rio is worth my time at this point, but I know it ain’t a modern food hall. Bring back the classic food haul. (See what I did there?)
